Seminary Life
“In Omnibus Christus”
Eucharistic Life and Prayer C entral to life in community is participation in the Eucharist and prayer together, each morning and evening. Our union with Christ in the celebration of the mass and liturgy of the hours is central to the discernment of what God wants of each one of us. Great care is taken in these celebrations, time required to learn the prayer of the Church and the mandate to pray not only for ourselves, but the entire Church. Formation Seminars and Philosophy Studies S eminars, classes and workshops are given are numerous topics in the seminary. At the same time, all seminarians will study philosophy in a nearby school, if required. Each class covers various topics, from catechesis, self-awareness, life as a religious missionary, topics on our Founder and the congregation of the Xaverian Missionaries.
Recreation L ife is not all work and study. It is important to learn a balance in life of study, work, prayer and rest. Recreation in the community also helps strengthen its unity. It also is an opportunity to learn more of the local culture. Pastoral Training P astoral training begins in the first stages of the formation program. Attitudes and skills necessary to be a missionary priest or brother in service with the poor are built up slowly over the span of initial formation in the seminary. Catechesis, assistance in our local parish, and other opportunities are available to serve and give oneself for the sake of others.
Working Together for the Community L ike any household, effort is needed in cleaning, repair and other works. Working together in the community also affords the opportunity to strengthen the bonds within the community by placing oneself at the service of larger needs than one's own. Learning to support one another O verall, formation in the initial stages of training, Aspirancy, Postulancy and Novitiate builds friendships, character and seeks the follow the desire of Jesus, "Father, may they be one, as you and I are one." The formation directors work closely with each candidate with one-on-one attention to assist them as they seek the will of God in discovering their call in life. |
